Having been in the modelling industry for over 20 years, Models Direct are one of the most established modelling agencies in the UK. When it comes to textiles we have to remember that they are not very durable and that some of the vintage items you come across might not have been kept in the best conditions. When on the hunt for great bargains you may come across some lovely pieces that have moth holes in them or need a thorough clean. A stain at waist can be hidden with wide belt and a small hole can be darned, but the general rule is that if you can’t clean it or repair it easily; don’t buy it. These kinds of items are more trouble than they’re worth, especially if you’re planning to resell them. 

If you’re lucky enough to have a curvaceous figure then don’t be afraid to try different styles because this is the best way to learn what works for your body and what doesn’t. Bringing along a friend who can be honest with you when you’re shopping for something new can really help this process. Remember that dresses are a staple of your wardrobe, so buying one that fits well and makes you look and feel great means that you are much more likely to get a lot of wear out of it.

If vintage items just need a freshening up it’s very important to know what type of wash they can withstand. Many items from the 80’s, 70’s, or even 60’s can be thrown in washing machine on a low heat without suffering because they’re usually made from man-made fabrics. If you are going to buy older pieces, keep in mind that they will need dry cleaning or hand washing, so factor in these expenses especially if adding a mark-up for resale. Models Direct Walk the Walk

Models Direct look to the catwalk to give the best modelling platform to its aspiring talent.

Modelling isn't an exact science. It's about going with the flow, being in the moment and adapting. Developing your own style of walking doesn't mean coming up with a way to walk in a fashion show that's never been seen before. No need for that level of creativity (so if you're thinking that blowing a kiss and kicking up your heel each time you get to the end of the runway is a great idea, don't do it!).

For the love of all things modeling: keep it simple. You'd be surprised how much more of an impact subtlety will get you when it comes to this topic.

The more you practice your walk, the more you'll start doing little things that make you feel at your best whenever you're strutting. This could be anything from adding a touch more sway to your hips (for women) to shooting a sexy smirk when you pose at the end of the runway (in female modelling or male modelling).

Models Direct Male Models Cruise the Catwalk

Two of our male models, John and Carlos, took part in a fashion event in the stylish Cruise store in Aberdeen that stocks designer brands including Prada, Gucci and Jimmy Choo.

John and Carlos both enjoyed strutting their way through the spectators on this catwalk assignment. Models Direct asked them how the evening went.

“The experience was great fun,” John informed Models Direct. “It was the first time I had done anything like it. Getting to do something completely different from normal was appreciated.”
